CJI publishes report on approved premises

The contribution made by approved premises to the criminal justice system has been praised by CJI's Chief Inspector Brendan McGuigan in a new report published today.  View Report Page

"Approved premises practice has progressed since CJI's last inspection and these facilities continue to play a vital role in delivering public protection and providing offenders who want to change their behaviour with a new start," said Mr McGuigan.

The report found standards within approved premises and cooperation with statutory partners had improved in the three years since CJI previously reported on their operations.

While some approved premises had experienced difficulties in the face of the introduction of increasingly demanding governance standards, Inspectors found no evidence that public safety was compromised or that residents were affected by these governance concerns.
