CJI publishes report on Corporate Goverance in the Probation in the Probation Board

12 October 2006
Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland (CJI) has today (Thursday 12 October 2006) published the report on its inspection of corporate governance within the Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI).

The inspection looked at the structures and functions of the agency and its Board and its relationship between the Board, the management and the staff and its sponsoring department, the Northern Ireland Office (NIO).

Inspectors found the Probation Board demonstrated appropriate procedures and had in place the relevant structures and accountability mechanisms for a medium sized organisation.

Following the inspection, the Probation Board decided to undertake a restructuring designed to improve its functioning.

CJI plans to revisit the agency next year to examine progress against recommendations contained within the report.
