Criminal Justice Inspection unveils 2008-09 Business Plan

08 April 2008
Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland (CJI) has unveiled its Business Plan for 2008-09.

The plan outlines the work the Inspectorate intends to undertake during the coming financial year.

This includes a programme of 15 inspections looking at areas such as police custody, serious and organised crime and an inspection of mental health provision within the criminal justice system.

“The Business Plan published today has been approved by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and the Attorney General.  It has also been adjusted where possible to take into account the issues raised by delegates who discussed our proposed work programme at our 2008 Stakeholder Conference,” said Brendan McGuigan, Chief Executive of Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland.

Mr McGuigan explained the Business Plan reflects the Government’s aims for improving the criminal justice system and the Inspectorate’s own objectives for 2008-09.

“CJI has set itself a number of objectives and targets which will be used to track progress during 2008-09 and will be reported on in our annual report” he added.

During the next 12 months, CJI will also undertake five follow-up inspections which will monitor the progress of the various criminal justice agencies in progressing recommendations made by the Inspectorate in previous inspection reports.

Copies of the 2008-09 Business Plan can be downloaded from the Corporate Publications section of the Publications area of CJI’s website –www.cjini.org
