Brendan McGuigan named Acting Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland

Brendan McGuigan has been appointed as Acting Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland with immediate effect.

The appointment, by Justice Minister David Ford, follows the resignation of Dr Michael Maguire who has taken up the post of Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland.

Mr McGuigan, who is currently Deputy Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice, will fill the post of Chief Inspector in an acting capacity pending the completion of the public appointment process to find a new Chief Inspector for the organisation.

Justice Minister David Ford said, “I am pleased that Mr McGuigan has agreed to undertake the role of Chief Inspector until the public appointments process is concluded to find a replacement for Dr Maguire. Mr McGuigan will bring continuity and a wealth of knowledge to the post.”

Commenting on the appointment, Mr McGuigan said, “I am happy to accept the position of Acting Chief Inspector and will work to ensure that Criminal Justice Inspection continues to play an integral role in building a better justice system for all.”
