CJI Chief Inspector's current term extended until November 2024

The Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice in Northern Ireland, Jacqui Durkin’s current term of office has been extended for a further two years.  The announcement was made by the Minister of Justice Naomi Long MLA earlier today.
 
“I welcome the Minister of Justice’s decision to extend my current term as Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice and look forward to further developing my relationship with the organisations and agencies that CJI inspects, our Inspection partners and those from the voluntary and community sector who contribute to the criminal justice system,” said Ms Durkin.
 
“As pandemic recovery continues, the CJI team and I are committed to the delivery of independent and impartial inspections and reviews focused on a better criminal justice system for all those in contact with and who work in it,” she concluded.

Ms Durkin was initially appointed on 30 November 2019 for a period of three years.  Her current term of office will now conclude on 29 November 2024.
