CJI reports on Prison Service enquiry into the release of prisoners in error

CJI has completed its report for the Minister of Justice, David Ford MLA on the Northern Ireland Prison Service’s enquiry into the erroneous release of two prisoners on 29 September and 1 October 2010.  View report. View press release.

CJI was asked on 4 October by the Minister of Justice to carry out this work in order to provide independent assurance on the Prison Service enquiry and its findings.    As part of that work, Inspectors attended all core meetings of the Enquiry Team.  The Prison Service enquiry has made a number of recommendations which were agreed by Inspectors.  In addition, CJI has made two additional recommendations in relation to the enquiry.
