CJI was created in 2003 to independently assess and improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and fairness of Northern Ireland's criminal justice system.

Our vision is to promote a better justice system for all, guided by values of independence, integrity and accountability, with the aim of driving continuous improvement across justice agencies.

We are focussed on ensuring the vulnerable are protected, strategy, governance and delivery can meet challenges within the criminal justice system and where outcomes lead to effective services and increased public confidence to the benefit of everyone.

What are our aims?
Our aim is to promote the effectiveness, efficiency and even-handedness of the criminal justice system in Northern Ireland.
Secure improvement and greater co-operation between statutory, voluntary and community organisations, contributing to the criminal justice system.
Promote public confidence in the criminal justice system.
Engage with stakeholders through regular communication.
Partner with other Inspectorates and experts when required to deliver a quality inspection process and report.
Work collaboratively with inspected organisations and agencies while maintaining our independence and impartiality to secure improvement.
